Santa Maria Police say 13 people have been arrested following a street sweep targeting gang members.
The Police Department's Gang Suppression Team conducted a street enforcement saturation sweep Saturday. They were looking for gang members and people under the influence of narcotics.
13 people were arrested, charged with possession of controlled substances, being under the influence of controlled substances, driving under the influence, and for violating their probation or parole. Several people were also arrested for outstanding arrest warrants.
The sweep mostly took place on the northern side of Santa Maria.
The Santa Maria Police Department says these sweeps reduce the amount of gang and narcotics related crime in the city and make the city a safer place for everyone.
